May/June Chorus News
It's May! And that means Spring Concert time, Great Adventure and soon, our annual awards banquet at the Lobster Shanty.
SPRING CONCERT: The date for the Spring Concert has been set for Thursday, May 14th, 2015. The daytime concert previews are 7:40am for the entire 8th Grade, 9:05am for the entire 6th and 7th grade and the evening concert will be at 7pm. Chorus students should arrive to school and be seated in their assigned seat, dressed and ready to go at 6:45pm.
BAKE SALE: At every concert we hold a bake sale. Please consider bringing an item such as a case of water, a case of soda, an item you baked that can be divided into individual servings or (MY version of baking) buy it at the store!
PAST ALUMNI: If you are the parent, neighbor, friend or relative of past Music Department Alumni, please invite them to come and join us at concert time!
CONCERT ATTIRE: Attire for the DAYTIME previews is your black MUSIC DEPARTMENT t-shirt OR SOLID black shirt (NOT strapless or bare midriff, no large logos) and blue jeans. You may also wear a pair of blue jean capris or blue jean skirt of APPROPRIATE length (no more than 4 inches above the knee).
At night, students should arrive to the cafeteria at 6:45pm sharp in their concert attire.
For girls, concert attire is a black dress OR black skirt and black shirt WITH black hosiery (tights, leggings or panty hose) AND black shoes (not too high, so you don't fall over!) or black boots. HOSIERY IN THE SPRING IS OPTIONAL, as it is hot in the cafeteria! However, please be especially careful skirts and dresses are an appropriate length. Feel free to wear pretty jewelry if you want. NO STRAPLESS SHIRTS OR DRESSES WILL BE PERMITTED. ALL SKIRTS/DRESSES MUST BE NO HIGHER THAN 4 INCHES ABOVE THE KNEE. NO PANTS.
For boys, concert attire is black pants, black socks, black shoes and a collared shirt (buttons or not) of any color WITH a tie. (I have lots of ties if you need one!) If you do not have any of these items, most can be found at the Target, Walmart or K-Mart in Freehold or Howell.
If you are really struggling to find something to wear, please see me in advance and I will help you! I don't want anyone to feel they can't be in the concert because of clothing but I will need some advance notice to help. Students dressed inappropriately will be removed from the concert and may watch from the audience.
A WORD ABOUT ATTIRE: Just as a soccer player in a tutu would look silly on the soccer field when all his/her team mates are wearing the proper uniform, a student in chorus and band who shows up in something totally different from all of the other students who are on stage also looks silly. You would never question the required uniform for a sporting event, so please don't do so with your concert attire. Soccer players wear shin guards and cleats, field hockey players wear skirts, and chorus members wear the required concert attire mentioned above. Thanks for your cooperation!!
